Checking In - Well, Whining, Really...

Is anybody still out there? I've been so sporadic with this blog for a long time. Unmotivated. Uninspired.

Just thought I'd post something - anything - to get the wheels turning.

I guess I feel like I'm in a stagnant phase right now. My artwork is progressing and I'm happy with what I've been doing lately. I'm getting some shows here and there, some sales, etc. All as a result of a lot of hard work from the past few years. But it's not enough to support me. I know that I need to do another push and keep working, but for some reason I'm blocked. Or lazy. Or scared.

So maybe it's just the economy and it'll pick up soon.

On a positive note, I have work in the lobby of the Murchison Performance Hall on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. If you're in the Denton area and would like to see it, check the schedule.

And Waxy Buildup, the exhibit I collaborated on with Trayc Claybrook, will be on exhibit at Gallery One in Ellensburg, Washington in January of 2011.

So there are some things going on and I have things to look forward to.

My next major goal is to get my work into a gallery in Dallas and at least one other major city in the US next year.

OK, it's out there, so now I have to do it.

Still here, still checking on it, you're not just speaking to the ether!

I've read of so many artist going through what you have this year, and I have been struggling with it too. I don't know what it is - the uncertainty of the economy no doubt a part of it. All I know is that I've been stalled on so many fronts and I'm ready for this down time to be over!

Stagnant? Don't think so. Everything you listed sounds fun and exciting to me. Especially, "my artwork is progressing and I'm happy with what I've been doing lately." That's just the best.

Keep writing, Deanna! Your blog is exceptional.

Hello i just stumbled upon your site today! I LOVE IT!! Thank you so much for putting up all your advice and words of wisdom! I just graduated with my BFA in Printmaking and talk about feeling stagnant, overwhelmed, paralyzed!! I have so many options which makes making a decision almost impossible. Im also trying to create a more professional image of myself...i am not a student anymore! Reading through your previous posts is extremely encouraging and enlightening! Thank you so much and keep up the wonderful work!!!

It is good to know that there are fellow artists who feel the same way I do. I, too, am an emerging artist and am trying to make a name for myself. It's a real challenge, but it's still more fun than working for "the man" in Corporate America, which I did for way too long. ; )

I hear that it's a good idea to link your website on other people's blogs. I just created my own blog and am in the process of customizing it. Didn't want to have a blog, but that is how I found you!

My website is: marthabennett.net

Blog site is: emergingartists-wheredowegofromhere.blogspot.com
